Sodium ferrocyanide, also known as sodium xanthate, pale yellow crystals. Soluble in water, soluble in alcohol, no fixed melting, heating to 50 ℃ to dehydration, 81.5 ℃ to form a water content, in the 435 ℃ decomposition, decomposition product for nitrogen, iron carbide, sodium cyanide. Mainly used in medicine, pigment, tanning, smelting and chemical industry of important raw materials. It can also be used to melt snow in winter to prevent agglomeration additive. It can also be used to add salt to prevent clumping.

Use
Mainly used in medicine, pigment, tanning, smelting and chemical industry of important raw materials. Used as raw materials for making iron blue and red blood salt; Used in tannery, metal surface anticorrosion treatment, carbon steel carburizing treatment, pharmaceutical as iron removal, as oxidizer, food additives, explosives and chemical reagents. Used to melt snow in winter to prevent agglomeration additive. Hygienic standard for the use of food additives: 0.01g/kg salt.

Properties and stability

Soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol. Easy weathering in the air, and in 50 ~ 60 ℃ temperature, crystal will soon lose crystal water. Dry at a higher temperature and form a hard, blocky, water-free salt. It is not decomposed in unheated dilute acids, but in concentrated boiled acids, free hydrocyanic acid is produced. With silver nitrate action, the milky white ferrous cyanide silver precipitate. With ferrous sulfate, white ferrous cyanide deposits are formed, and then oxidized to Prussian blue ferrous cyanide. Under the influence of oxidant, the oxidation is sodium ferrocyanide. When heated strongly, nitrogen is completely decomposed and released, and sodium cyanide and iron carbide are formed.
