Dimethylglyoxime is a chemical substance whose molecular formula is C4H8N2O2. White triclinic crystalline or crystalline powder, soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone, and pyridine, almost insoluble in water. It is obtained from the reaction of sodium two hydroxyketone monoxime with hydroxylamine sulfonate. Dimethylglyoxime is added to the solution of hydroxylamine-sodium sulfonate, heated to 70 C, and maintained for several hours at a high temperature. Dimethylglyoxime crystals are precipitated, cooled, filtered immediately, and washed with ice water until sulfate is no longer used. Sodium hydroxylamine-sulfonate can be prepared by mixing sodium nitrite with crushed ice, adding a suspension of sodium bisulfite with water while stirring, then adding glacial acetic acid from the liquid surface under stirring, and then adding concentrated hydrochloric acid and crushed ice, so that the reaction liquid has been kept below 0 C, and the test paper with Congo red showed acid reaction. The removal of insoluble precipitates was achieved by hydroxylamine sulfonate solution.
